Aoi Hideyoshi (秀義 アオイ, Hideyoshi Aoi) is the former Captain of the Tenth Division in the Gotei 13. He betrayed the Gotei after Aizen was released, choosing to become one of his new commanders, replacing Gin Ichimaru. He is commonly partnered with Toshiko Nagakura.
Appearance[]
Aoi is a man with snake-like features, as his pupils resemble slits and he has purple markings around his eyes as well as having a rather long tongue. He has distinctive long, jet black hair that Toshiko claims makes him look like a woman and golden eyes.
In place of wearing the usual Arrancar uniform, he chooses to wear a dark, faded beige-colored Changshan-like cloth over a dark green tunic, dark grey pants, and odd darker grey sandals. His outfit is polished with a long purple rope, which he wears tied around his waist and bandages around his ankles.
It also be should noted that he has extremely pale skin.
Personality[]
Aoi is a playful, cruel man. He enjoys torturing others and uses pain as a means of getting what he wants. He taunts his opponents, regardless of the consequences of doing so. He is also highly vain, often commenting on how he is "so beautiful" and of how his skin is a perfect color, which often results in petty arguments with fellow subordinate, Toshiko Nagakura who dislikes his "stuck-up" and haughty attitude.
History[]
Aoi as a child
Aoi was born into the famous Hideyoshi clan and was its first prodigy in several generations. His skill in swordsmanship and kidō far surpassed that of those who came before him and rivaled even that of the first of his clan. While he was praised for his abilities, he lacked friends because of their fear of his abilities.
Aoi depicted with Sabella
However, when he met Sabella Matsumoto, a distant descendant of Rangiku Matsumoto, he fell deeply in love with her. Despite the fact that he had already preformed vicious and otherwise "evil" acts, Sabella seemed to believe that he was still good, no matter what he did.
This view changed when he killed a Shinigami in the Academy, supposedly on accident. Sabella told him that she no longer believed he was good and that he had completely fallen to the "dark side" and that she couldn't be friends with him any longer.
Aoi, angered by the loss of friendship and love, began to work harder on graduating the Academy so he could become a Captain and throw it in her face that he had. However, he struggled because of his lack of self-confidence and Sabella graduated first, becoming the lieutenant of the Tenth Division. Inspired, though he wouldn't admit it, Aoi worked harder and three years later, became the captain of the Tenth Division, thus becoming her superior.
